Accountants in Newcastle upon Tyne are difficult to find. Well
actually that's not true, they are easy to find on the ever prestigious
Gray Street in the City Centre, but they are extremely expensive. A
good, fairly priced accountant in Newcastle upon Tyne is hard to find.
The big Accountants in Newcastle have massive premises, massive company cars, and massive payrolls. Massive everything. And who pays for that? Obviously their clients do. But I am just a small businessman, I have just opened a start up business and I need an accountant to help with the books, the forms, the filing, the payroll - all the little things that I will one day teach myself, but not yet.
As a small businessman I don't have thousands of pounds to spend on an accountant who has massive company expenses to pay for. I want an honest, local accountant in Newcastle to help me out and appreciate my business.
When I first started looking for an accountant in Newcastle I walked down Gray Street and stopped in a couple of accountant's offices to enquire about their services. I was treated like and alien - they completely looked down their noses at me. And I don't like pin-striped suites anyway.
I decided that the best way to find an accountant in my local area was to look outside the city centre. In the end I found a superb accountant in Whitley Bay, but it took a while, believe you me.
I'll tell you what the experience has taught me. I reckon that finding an accountant is like finding a gynaecologist - you are going to be showing them some intimate stuff and you want to be able to trust them; you don't just pick the first one you meet. Admittedly I have no need for a gynaecologist and it didn't bother me that my accountant had very cold hands. So maybe accountants and gynaecologists are slightly different - but you know what I mean.
Conclusion
Finding an accountant you can trust is a difficult task, but it is one that you have to persevere at. It is no use taking on an accountant that you are uncomfortable with - make sure that they have a clear pricing policy and an understanding of your business.
